Bank Indonesia : Inflation Rises

1:02 AM

Indobusiness - Bank Indonesia (BI) recognizes that inflation during the first three months of 2013 was higher than expected. Even for the March 2013 inflation has exceeded the upper limit of the central bank's target.

BI Governor Nasution said inflation was 0.63 percent in March 2013. However, on an annual basis, inflation was 5.9 percent, exceeding the limits of the central bank's inflation target of 5.5 percent.

"It's this time of inflation is higher than our own targets. Yet do not forget, this inflation could go up and get down," Nasution said when met at the BI office in Jakarta, Friday (04/05/2013).

Nasution claimed, in fact inflation in February and March this is something that should not have happened. Therefore, call Nasution, core inflation in March 2013 is maintained at 1.2 percent. In fact, he said here, the actual inflation in February and March 2013 this was normal. Moreover, when the three largest commodities that contributed to the inflation in March 2013 was issued, the garlic, onion and chili.

"So if the rules on imports has been prepared since the beginning of its implementation, then the skyrocketing inflation should not have happened," he added.

Related to high inflation, the central bank has been coordinating with the government in order to suppress, in particular the supply of commodities in order to keep the price did not soar, especially of onions, garlic and chili.

Although inflation has exceeded the upper limit, the central bank will not raise the level of BI rate (BI rate) for the time being. Because in order to raise the BI rate then the central bank requires more macro data to be able to support the BI rate hike.
