Head of Public Relations BI Difi A Johansyah said responsibility for any misuse of credit card or debit card issued by a bank that can not be thrown to the central bank. "Because, monitoring merchant and electronic data capture (EDC) is the responsibility of the issuing bank. Thus, BI can not be blamed," said Difi at his office, Jakarta, Friday (22/03/2013).
Difi explained, the current credit card issuing banks, especially Bank Mandiri is having problems misuse of credit cards owned by its customers, has made the blocking customer accounts and credit cards. This is to anticipate the credit cards misused by others.
According to Difi, the central bank and the merchant can not monitor all the bank-owned EDC because it does have the responsibility of the respective bank. When there is a problem, the customer must immediately report to the issuing bank, and the bank will be reported to the BI.
The problem, said Difi, customers must also suspicious of the new mode of misuse of credit cards that are currently emerging. Especially in the theft of credit card data after a transaction is used in Body Shop stores in Indonesia. "Customers should be suspicious, if the credit card is in-deep in the engine, why is swapped again on a particular machine. Clients must guard against data theft," he added.
Difi also warned that credit card information can also be misused, especially when used to transact on the internet. "Because, transactions on the Internet that was not necessary signatures, just need the last three digits. This can be taken by the thief and can be used for transactions on the go," he said.
